Multi-disciplinary Databases = Good for Most Topics

Academic Search Premier
Most significant journals in nearly every subject, from anthropology to women’s studies, the majority available full text.

Sign is not required within EBSCO except to download ebooks or to keep citations in folders. When trying to sign in to EBSCO using the blue Sign into Google button, you then have to enter your full Hamline email address– you can't simply enter the first part of your username.
CINAHL Complete (EBSCOhost)
Nursing and Allied Health Database. Provides more than 460 active, full-text non-open access journals dating back to 1962 and includes searchable cited references for more than 1,500 journals with more than 3,800 active indexed journals.
Health Source - Nursing/Academic Edition
Scholarly journal articles focusing on many medical disciplines, especially nursing and allied health.
Public Library of Science (PLoS)
A vast collection of full-text open access journals and other scientific literature under an open content license. Besides the multidisciplinary PLoS ONE, they publish peer-reviewed journals in specific areas including: biology, medicine, sustainability, genetics, global public health, and more.
PubMed Central
The result of a legislative mandate to collect and preserve the NIH Library of Medicine’s biomedical literature, PMC provides a free full-text archive of over 4 million articles in the biomedical and life sciences.
Scientific Electronic Library Online
SciELO provides open access to scientific articles and journals many of which were originally published in Latin America, Portugal, Spain or South Africa. Searches can be limited by language to English, Spanish or Portuguese.

You may also want to consider using Google Scholar for broad searches, JSTOR for older articles, or U.S. Newsstream for newspapers or transcripts.

Google Scholar
Search broadly across many subjects and sources for articles, dissertations, books, abstracts and court opinions from academic publishers, professional societies, online repositories, universities and other web sites. Note: Google does not identify the databases it uses; nor does it indicate the quality of the sources it provides. Use Google Scholar as a supplement to Hamline database searching.
JSTOR
"Journal STORage." This is an archive of academic journals in many disciplines. Full text coverage for journals begins with the first issue published and continues up to the most recent 3-5 years (i.e. current articles are not included). For example, it includes: The American Historical Review issues from 1895 forward, Minnesota History from 1915, and the Town Planning Review from 1910. Special collections within this database include American prison newspapers, 1800-2020, Independent Voices publications from the alternate press, Student Activism primary sources, and more.
U.S. Newsstream
This database indexes thousands of full-text state and national news sources, including:
   The Star Tribune (1986 to present)
   The Pioneer Press (2010 to 2019)
   The New York Times, East Coast Late Edition (1999 to present)
   The Wall Street Journal (2010 to current)
   Transcripts from 60 MINUTES CBS news program
   ...and many more
