Interlibrary Loans - New for Fall 2022

What's changed?

Streamlined Interlibrary Loans available

A new interface in HamCAT for records may appear with 1 or 2 options if Hamline doesn't have it. For example:

Get it from other libraries: estimated delivery for physical copy in 7 days, or digital chapter

  • Estimated time for delivery of physical items such as books will often be available.
  • Delivery arrival time and loan lending periods will still vary depending upon the lending library policies and where it is located.
  • ILLs are not processed or delivered on weekends or holidays.
  • See the status  of your request(s) from within HamCAT My Account.Requested date, awaiting process by lender, not set yet indicator

Note that you will have to click on an arrow in requests to see the status details.

The average turnaround time for digital articles and chapter requests is a little over 10 hours, Monday through Friday, excluding  holidays.  Sometimes articles are delivered  in under 2 hours. However depending upon the lending library, digital requests may take several days or more.

As usual, ILL is not a guarantee, but know that we and other libraries will try our best to get items for you as timely as possible.

Benefits

  •  From within the HamCAT interface,  Hamline users can now  see and request books and other items from more libraries not otherwise available from Bush Library or our MnPALS Partner libraries.

  • No need for another sign in for ILLiad. A single sign on in HamCAT (Hamline Google) allows users to see, request, and track Interlibrary Loans.

  • Our new HamCAT Interlibrary Loan functionality is cloud based. So it should reduce ITS time for setting up and maintaining the now defunct ILLiad in VDI and on library staff computers.

Continued service

What's not changing:

  • Interlibrary Loan service continues to be offered free (no cost) to end users
  • our courier service will continue Monday through Friday (weekends and holidays excepted)
  • the library will continue to get your  requests  as quickly and efficiently as possible
  • we are continuing to be part of the MnPALS ConsortiumOpens in a new browser tab which works with MinitexOpens in a new browser tab
