Just as you provide citations in your own work, when you use the ideas of other authors, so, too must you indicate when some of your process or results came about via the use of a Generative AI tool.
Use the Library's Artificial Intelligence Resources Guide for guidance on how to create prompts in Generative AI bots, and how to cite your use of Generative AI tools.
What Does That Mean? If in doubt, ask your professor.
Here are some potential ways you could ask, or engage them on the topic of Generative AI use.
1) Share the ways that you could use generative AI that don't compromise the learning experience your professor has created for this course. Run those ideas past your professor, to make sure that those are acceptable in this course.
2) Imagine: How would a professional in the field of study you are pursuing at Hamline use generative AI in their work tasks?
See if your assumptions matches professionals who are already working in the field. Use your professor as one of the professionals working in the field. Ask several people to see if their responses are the same or different. Just as your different professors may have varying rules about using, or not using Generative AI in your classes, different employers may have different rules for employees working in professional capacities.
