Where do I request my Blackboard course for the semester?

  1. Log into Piperline
  2. Select "Faculty Services" from the main menu
  3. Select "Flag Course for Blackboard" from the Faculty Services menu. A list of your courses will be displayed.
  4. Check the course/s that you want to have a Blackboard course shell for and click "Submit".

How do I make my course available for students to see?

 

Once your course is created in Blackboard, you will find it listed under "My Courses". Please note that the course is listed as "unavailable". This means you now have time to work in your course until you decide to make it available to your students. Once you are ready, make your course available:

 

  1. Log into your Blackboard course.
  2. Go to the "Control Panel" and select "Settings" under the Course Options menu.
  3. Select "Course Availability"
  4. Select "Yes" to make the course available and click on "Submit".

What is the role of the Course Builder?

The Course Builder role has access to most areas of the Course Control Panel. This role is appropriate for a research assistant or to an assistant who has limited responsibilities, but should not have access to student grades. 

 

Note: If the course is unavailable to Students, a Course Builder can still access the course. A Course Builder cannot remove an Instructor from a Course.

·         *Resources

·          *Announcements

·         Batch Create Users for Course

·          *Collaboration

·         Remove Users from the Course

·          *Digital Drop Box

·          Manage Course Menu

·         *Test Manager

·          Archive Course

·         *Survey Manager

·          Recycle Course

·         *Pool Manager

·          *Manage Tools

 

 * Settings for areas with an asterisk (*) cannot be modified by the System Administrator. These privileges will always be available for this Course Role.

Note: All options within the available areas of the Course Control Panel may not be available.

 

What is the role of the Grader?

The Grader role has limited access to the Course Control Panel. A Grader would assist the Instructor in the creation, management, delivery, and grading of Assessments and Surveys. A Grader may also assist the Instructor with adding manual entries to the Online Gradebook.

Note: If a course is unavailable to students, the course will appear in the My Courses module and Course list for a user with the role of Grader, but the Grader will not be able to enter the course until the course is available

Graders have access to the following areas within the Course Control Panel:

·          *Announcements

·          *Survey Manager

·          *Course Calendar

·          *Pool Manager

·          *Digital Drop Box

·          *Gradebook

·          List/Modify Users – may not modify content

·         *Gradebook Views

·          *Test Manager

·         *Course Statistics

* Settings for areas with an asterisk (*) cannot be modified by the System Administrator. These privileges will always be available for this Course Role.

Note: All options within the available areas of the Course Control Panel may not be available.

What is the role of a Guest?

Users with the role of Guest have no access to the Course Control Panel. If Guest access is enabled by the System Administrator, an Instructor can make areas within a course accessible to Guests.

Visitors to the Blackboard Learning System such as prospective Students, alumni or parents may be given the role of Guest.

What is the role of an Instructor?

Instructors have access to all areas in the Course Control Panel. This role is generally given to the person developing, teaching or facilitating the class. If a course is unavailable to Students, Instructors may still access it.

Administrators may modify access to the following areas of the course:

 

·List / Modify Users

·Course Copy

·Create User

·Recycle Course

· Batch Create Users for Course

·Import Course Cartridge

·Remove Users from the Course

·Enroll User

·Settings

·Export Course

·Archive Course

·Manage Course Menu

What is the role of a Student?

Student is the default Course User Role. As user with the role of Student has no access to any areas on the Course Control Panel.

What is the role of a Teacher's Assistant?

The Teacher’s Assistant has access to nearly everything in the Course Control Panel. If the course is unavailable to students, Teaching Assistants may still access the course.

Unlike the Instructor, the Teaching Assistant will not be listed in the Course Catalog listing for the course.

Note: A Teaching Assistant cannot remove an Instructor from a course.

How do I archive my Blackboard course?

Archiving a course copies EVERYTHIG in the course, including student data. Keeping an archive of a course will allow you to recreate (with the help of the Blackboard System administrator) the entire course, revisit students’ test results and grades.

1.   Log into the Blackboard course you wish to archive.

2.   Click on Control Panel in the left navigation.

3.   In the Course Option box, click on the Archive Course link.

 4.   Click again on Archive in the top grey menu.

 5.   Under Course Selection select the Include Grade Center History option.

 6.   Click on Submit and wait for the message “This action has been successfully queued. 

 7.   Click OK. The system will take a few minutes to process your archive request and generate a link titled ArchiveFile……… .zip.

8.   Right-click on the ArchiveFile…….. .zip link and select the Save Target As (Internet Explorer), Save Link As (FireFox), or Save Linked File As (Safari) option.

 9. Choose the location to where you wish to save your archive file, then click Save.

10. You will receive a Download Complete message, from which you can either open or close your archived file.
